What Is Network Management?

What is the network management? Recently, more and more mentioned this word. Actually, it is generally used to these areas such as computers, bank system, schools, telecommunications and so on. Network management is the top-level way of managing and maintaining large networks. There are these components or functions in network management, such as network monitoring, syslog reporter, performance manager, topology view, notifications of faults and data center management. Here are lots of protocols in it which could support your network well including SNMP, ICMP, ARP, DNS, WBEM, Common Information Model, Java Management Extensions, Transaction Language 1, and Netconf.

Now, we talk about some important parts including routing, security, configuration management and accounting in network management.

Routing plays an important role which is the path of computer networks for sending and receiving data packets. Using nodes we could passed the physically or logically addressed packets from the source to the destination, which has another name - router and the process we call forwarding. All of these processes will be carrying out in the routing tables which are used to maintain the record for the most available routes.

In these parts I mentioned, security management is another core component in network management. It is focus on protecting a network from unauthorized access, while it has other helpful functions, for example authorization of subscriber access, control of the distribution of cryptographic keying material, and the distribution and reporting of security related events.

The third part I want to discuss is configuration management, which relates to security and other quality areas. It refers to the management of security features in a network by controlling changes made to the software, hardware, firmware, documentation, and test features in a system. It maintains the network system under our control to guarantee our networks are safe.

Certainly, there are two main areas in software configuration management. The first one about it is named as component repository management, which aims at storing lots of entities from a software development project. The second area refers to products which would be changed to these entities. We could find it in technique or engineering support.

The last part I want to share with you is the accounting management. It pays more attention to the financial status of the network and its ways are controlling and reporting. Here are various analysis, reporting, planning about financial data or performance index, what is more, it could give us some available suggestions. It involves in general financial systems like bank account maintenance, financial statement development, and analysis of cash flow and financial health.

Well, this is a brief introduction of network management. I hope this article could give you a hand on this aspect.

Now I am serving to a famous company SmartWings network management tool. Certainly, I want to share this info with my dear readers. Best network monitoring software, click here.
