Today was a busy day for the newly minted student division. We had our first business meeting, elections, networking event with the NEE, and annual dinner.
Business and elections
We had our first business meeting of the conference over lunch. We discussed our progress and growth over the past year, and took nominations for the new officer positions. If you haven?t done so already, be sure to cast your vote (ballot) by 11:30 am PST (3:30 EST) on June 28.
SD/NEE networking event
The networking event was amazing as we had a chance to connect with faculty and other students over drinks at the Elephant and Castle Pub. It was great to catch up with old friends and meet new people and play ?6 degrees of Kevin Bacon? as we tried to figure out if we knew any of the same people. As always, it was also great to hear how new faculty made the transition from students to teachers.
Annual dinner
Finally, the highlight of the evening was our annual dinner. The event was attended by 92 students ? way more than we could possibly have expected. The food was delicious, the conversations were fun, our sponsors were great.
If you ever have the chance to sit down with our industry sponsors over dinner, it can be a great experience. They have such a different perspective and they are so excited about developing the next generation of engineers. It?s amazingly encouraging to hang out with them.
