The Department of Homeland Security and the USCIS announced new efforts to attract foreign talent to the United States. This effort is twofold ? attracting foreign investment in the United States and allowing more foreign skilled workers in the U.S. Two types of visas will be promoted by the administration ? H-1B and EB-2 visa. H-1B visa is a nonimmigrant visa granted to foreign workers with special training sponsored by a U.S. employer. The EB-2 employment visa is an immigrant visa which allows foreign nationals holding an advanced degree to obtain residency in the U.S.? The application process will become easier and clear for these two visa applications.? Moreover, the administration is ?streamlining? the application process for the EB-5 immigrant investor program.? Eb-5 visa is a way of obtaining a green card for foreign nationals who invest substantial amount of money in the United States.? To obtain the visa, individuals must invest at least $500,000, creating at least 10 jobs.
The purpose of the legal immigration reform is mainly to facilitate our economy and increase competitiveness in the global world.? Notice this reform does not change any substantive immigration law but rather only increases the efficiency of the current process. It shows how the bureaucracy of the administration has been perhaps purposeful to make the process slow and inefficient to make immigration more difficult to the United States.? If you are a foreign citizen in Los Angeles wanting to apply for a H-1B or EB-2 through employment in the U.S., our Los Angeles immigration attorney can help.
