The biggest gaming tag team is in the works! Microsoft and Sony! That?s right! Apparently the website microsoft-sony.com has already been registered and rumors has it that it will go beyond the gaming department.
In terms of gaming, we all know the real rivals are between Microsoft and Sony. Nintendo doesn?t even come close when it comes to hardcore gaming. And they have realized the future of gaming lies with DLC contents due to the massive amounts of money to made. So why compete with one another when you can form a coalition and still bleed gamers for even more money? A good strategic move I would say.
Not only that, Microsoft knows Sony has the edge in hardware while Microsoft are great with their software development tools. Plague with hardware problems in their 360s they are likely to seek Sony?s expertise in the hardware area while Sony?s problem are software related. Game developers have reported they prefer Microsoft?s development tools over others due to their ease of use. And that?s why we see plenty of cross platform games mostly ported to the PS3 from the Xbox.
But it probably doesn?t stop there. Their other departments could benefit from this merger eg. their mobile phone department. Sony?s phones with Microsoft?s Windows 7 Mobile. It could happen and it will definitely serve as a threat to Apple.
So imagine Microsoft and Sony working together to create the next generation console and development tools and at the same uniting 2 gaming communities. There are definitely lots of potential plus this alliance will definitely add additional pressure on Nintendo. And you can be damn sure if a Japanese RPG is released first, an english version will be out as well.
