Since I was a child I have enjoyed playing board games. It was a family favorite of mine growing up, before I had children, and now that I have kids of my own. Before I had children my husband and I would play Yahtzee and double solitaire for hours it seemed. Now we try to get in a board game nightly with the kids. It gives us family time nightly after dinner and before the kids go to bed, as well as some chatter, not to mention educational learning. However, Patch Products, the leading manufacturer and marketer of family entertainment products including games, puzzles, activity kits and more, has stepped up the game and is bringing our favorite classic childhood books such as Mother Goose, The Little Engine That Could, The Berenstain Bears and Where the Wild Things Are to entertaining educational board games the entire family is sure to love from their new Tales to Play line of games. Patch Products sent us The Berenstain Bears Learn to Share Game which has become a favorite of both kids.
The Berenstain Bears Game is for ages 4 and up and was easy to explain to the children. Character pieces include brother bear, sister bear, Lizzy and Cousin Freddie and it is a race around the game board to be the first to reach mama and papa bear.
Since Zoe is the youngest she went first at rolling the die. And this game provides a fun way to roll with the tree house dice slide. Put the dice in the top and watch it roll out. The die will either show a colored shape, an upset face which is the get in trouble cards or a smiling face which is the do something nice cards. If you roll a shape color player moves to the same color shape on the board. If you roll a sad face you have to draw a card from the get in trouble cards. These send you backwards on the path. If you roll a smiley face you draw a do something nice card. These cards allow you to move forward on the path but only if you share that card with another player.? If you don?t share you keep the card, but do not move forward.
Zoe was in a major sharing mood because she wanted to move forward. And she must really love me because I ended up having many cards, but that is good because if you roll an upset face you can use those do something nice cards to make up for a get in trouble card.? Zoe did not like the sad face cards.?
However you must have a do something nice card with the same background color as a get in trouble card to use them. If you use one of those cards to make up for a get in trouble card you do not move. So while this sounds confusing in text, it is really fun. The cards have sayings on them like ?you forgot your table manners?, ?you yell at another bear?, or you stay past your bedtime for the get in trouble cards, and ?you say please and thank you?, ?you play nice with another bear?, or ?you make your bed? for the do something nice cards.
Zoe had the most fun playing this saying she is such a good girl to share. She was so kind to me throughout the game, allowing me to win. The game is colorful, has 3D accessories, teaches children about being nice and consequences of being naughty. This would make a wonderful gift idea this holiday season.
