The Legend of Zelda: This Ephemeral Light

The land of Hyrule is overrun by an otherworldly darkness, transforming the once-beautiful land into a corpse of its former glory. The only hope left is a miracle from the Ancients, and they have all but abandoned this dying land.

"The Legend of Zelda: This Ephemeral Light" is a dark fantasy roleplay set in the "Legend of Zelda" universe. While I am borrowing the overall theme of the video game series, this roleplay is based on an original concept, daring to go where Zelda has never gone before. Here, I introduce a dark, despair-ridden Hyrule, driven to darkness by demons and horrors beyond the imagination. And here's the best part: you have no idea who the enemy is!

The plot is vague, with almost no history of Hyrule in the introduction. You're left to your own devices as to what is going on, how past events have built up to this moment, where your beloved hero has gone to, what's in store for our protagonists. Yes, plural. You understand, don't you?

Either way, this is the roleplay I have created. If it seems to suit you, great! Please feel free to check it out and put a spot in. If you have questions that need answers before you can submit a character, do not hesistate to ask either here or via PM.

Some US metros 'in the clear' of housing crisis

Denver recorded a 7.2 percent asking-price increase year-over-year in June, according to the website's own pricing metrics.

Nearly 30 cities have been designated??in the clear? of the housing downtown, according to a report today by Trulia, although real estate experts in some of those markets reacted to the apparently good news with conservative-sounding forecasts for their areas - or with downright skepticism.?

Amid hearty, annual asking price gains of 4 percent or more ? and with relatively low foreclosure rates ? Denver, San Jose, Pittsburgh, Little Rock, Austin and Colorado Springs each?hammered out a ?solid base for housing recovery,? said Jed Kolko, Trulia?s chief economist.

Those six cities were the only metropolitan areas specifically listed as "in the clear" by the real estate website. "We?defined ('in the clear') as metros with positive year-on-year asking-price growth and a low or moderate share of homes in foreclosure. In all, that includes 29 metros," Kolko added, "but we didn?t list them all out because some have only very slightly price growth. Best to focus on those six."

The big six "in the clear markets avoided the worst of the bubble,? Kolko said. Amid the mortgage crisis, ?those metros didn?t have big price declines that we saw in Miami, Phoenix and Detroit? ? places that still have a lot of homes left in foreclosures."

Nationally, asking prices for homes flickered just 0.3 percent higher year-over-year in June after a flat May, Trulia reported.?

Some ?in the clear? cities also are enjoying robust, new-home construction, Kolko added. ?But the main driver in those markets is job growth.?

At the top of Trulia?s list: Denver recorded a 7.2 percent asking-price increase year-over-year in June, according to the website?s own pricing metrics. Meanwhile, 11.9 out of every 1,000 Mile High City homes is in foreclosure, reports RealtyTrac ? as compared to far steeper foreclosure rates in cities like Phoenix (25.5), Miami (33.7), Orlando (29.3) and Detroit (21.2).

While Miami (up 16.1 percent in asking price during June year-over-year), Phoenix (up 18.9 percent) and Detroit (up 5.2 percent) all won back solid ground on pricing, Trulia dubbed those metros as ?at-risk? because they still have a high share of homes in foreclosure.

Kolko expects?price gains in those cities to ultimately shrink or even reverse as foreclosed homes in those areas come onto the market. Ironically, seven of the 10 cities with the very highest price increases in June (also including Orlando, West Palm Beach, and Cape Coral-Fort Myers, Fla., as well as Warren-Troy-Farmington Hills, Mich.), all were deemed "at-risk" in the Trulia report.?

On the sunnier side of the market, Trulia is sounding ?in the clear? alerts for San Jose ? with a 6.2 percent annual price spike and a foreclosure rate of 10.0 homes out of every 1,000 properties ? and Pittsburgh (a 5.1 percent annual price gain and a foreclosure share of just 4.4 of every 1,000 homes).

Kolko cites the unemployment rates in Denver (8.1 percent in May, according to the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics), San Jose (8.7 percent) and Pittsburgh (6.7 percent) as critical figures in those municipal comeback equations.?

The national unemployment average?was 8.2 percent in May.

But given the relatively lofty unemployment rates in Denver and San Jose during May, is their job growth really good enough to attract buyers?

According to Kolko at least: yes.?

?That means (those markets) are not just dependent on investors,? Kolko said. ?People are moving there for jobs. Developers are betting on the future by resuming construction.?

In both Denver and San Jose, real estate brokers contacted at random by msnbc.com momentarily chuckled at the notion that their markets are ?in the clear.? They then offered nuanced views of their local housing economies.

?We would be in the clear if the government got the heck out of the (real estate) business,? said Bob Stewart, the broker at Coldwell Banker, The Real Estate People, based in San Jose.

Under federal initiatives like HUD's Neighborhood Stabilization Program ? during which 400 cities and counties have received billions of dollars to slash housing blight in foreclosure-ravaged neighborhoods ? ?speculators? have shoved local ?investors? and Realtors aside, Stewart said, gobbling up distressed San Jose properties and re-selling them on the cheap.

?Speculators went out and got their (real estate) licenses and are targeting underwater properties, getting them listed at a very low price and submitting an offer immediately to the lender. If the lender accepts it, they?ve made $300,000 to $400,000 (per house),? Stewart said. ?There are enough of those here getting accepted that it?s keeping our prices? lower than they should be in San Jose.?

?The powers that be in the government really don?t understand the difference between investors and speculators,? Stewart added.

In Denver, broker Heather Parness believes ?we?re in the clear from the standpoint that I don?t feel we?re going to see any price declines over the next 12 to 24 months.?

Large homebuilders like Richmond and McStain have been buying up swaths of land ?for the last couple of years within metro Denver,? said Parness, president and managing broker at RE/MAX of Cherry Creek. ?And now that we?re seeing a shortage in existing inventory in Denver, the construction side is booming."

?The message that we?re very careful about is: We?re not predicting any huge price increases over the next several years,? Parness added. ?If we see any gains in the next 36 months, it might be a 1 to 3 percent appreciation, at most.?

US manufacturing shrinks for first time in 3 years

WASHINGTON (AP) ? U.S. manufacturing shrank in June for the first time in nearly three years, adding to signs that economic growth is weakening.

Production and exports declined, and the number of new orders plunged, according to a monthly report released Monday by the Institute for Supply Management.

The slowdown comes as U.S. employers have scaled back hiring, consumers have turned more cautious, Europe faces a recession and manufacturing has slowed in big countries like China.

"This is not good," said Dan Greenhaus, chief economic strategist at BTIG, an institutional brokerage. Though the report "does not mean recession for the broader economy, it is still a terribly weak number."

The trade group of purchasing managers said its index of manufacturing activity fell to 49.7. That's down from 53.5 in May. And it's the lowest reading since July 2009, a month after the Great Recession officially ended. Readings below 50 indicate contraction.

Economists said the manufacturing figures were consistent with growth at an annual rate of 1.5 percent or less. That would be down from the January-March quarter's already tepid annual pace of 1.9 percent.

"Our forecast that the U.S. will grow by around 2 percent this year is now looking a bit optimistic," said Paul Dales, an economist at Capital Economics.

Stocks fell sharply after the report was released at 10 a.m. But investors appeared to shake off the bad manufacturing news by the end of the day. The Dow Jones industrial average recovered most of its early losses to close down just 8.7 points at 12,871. And broader indexes ended the day up.

Most economists aren't yet predicting another recession. Though the ISM report suggests manufacturing is contracting, it typically takes a sustained reading below 43 to signal the economy isn't growing.

Still, U.S. manufacturing, which has helped drive growth since the recession ended, is faltering at a precarious time.

Americans have pulled back on spending, which drives roughly 70 percent of growth. Europe's economy is likely in recession, which has hurt U.S. exports.

And China's manufacturing sector grew in June at its slowest pace in seven months, according to a survey released Sunday by the state-affiliated China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing.

Manufacturing will likely stay weak for the next few months. The ISM's gauge of new orders, a measure of future activity, plunged from 60.1 to 47.8. That's the first time it has fallen below 50 since April 2009, when the economy was still in recession.

Fewer new orders reflect growing concerns of businesses. In addition to slower global growth and less spending by U.S. consumers, many companies worry that U.S. lawmakers won't extend a package of tax cuts at the end of the year.

Bricklin Dwyer, an economist at BNP Paribas, said the uncertainty "has left businesses unwilling to invest."

A gauge of production in the ISM's survey fell to its lowest level in more than three years.

U.S. factories are also reporting less overseas demand. A measure of exports dropped to 47.5, its lowest level since April 2009.

A gauge of employment edged down but remained at a healthy level of 56.6. That suggests factories may still be adding jobs. Manufacturers have reported job gains for eight straight months.

Overall hiring has slowed sharply this spring. Employers added an average of only 73,000 jobs per month in April and May. That's much lower than the average of 226,000 added in the first three months of this year. The unemployment rate rose in May to 8.2 percent from 8.1 percent, the first increase in a year.

Worries about slowing job growth are outweighing the benefits of lower gas prices. A measure of consumer confidence fell in June for the fourth straight month.

Slower job growth and falling confidence are weighing on consumers' willingness to spend. Americans cut back on purchases of autos and other long-lasting factory goods in May, the government said Friday.

The sharp drop in U.S. factory activity overshadowed more positive news on housing.

Construction spending rose 0.9 percent in May from April, the Commerce Department said in a separate report Monday. It was the second straight monthly increase, even though the level of spending still isn't healthy.

The increase was driven by a surge in residential construction. Home sales are up from the same month last year. Mortgage rates are at the lowest levels in history. And prices have begun to stabilize in most markets.

The economy could also get a boost this summer from lower gas prices, which have tumbled more than 60 cents per gallon since peaking in April. The result is that consumers have more money to spend on other goods, from autos and furniture to electronics and vacations, that fuel economic growth.

Esteban decided not to kill Nancy

Esteban had some trouble deciding how he wanted to treat Nancy's pregnancy. First he made Nancy prove the baby was his, then he debated killing her, before finally forcing her to live at his compound. Eventually, he asked her to marry him, but his cartel boss Pilar Zuazo wouldn't let it happen.

Nancy had her third son

With the help of Dr. Audra Kitson (played by Alanis Morissette), Nancy gave birth to her third son, Steven Ray Botwin.

Andy fell in love ... again

Andy fell in love with Dr. Kitson and asked her to marry him, but all hell broke loose before she has a chance to answer.

Pilar became a problem

Behind-the-scenes cartel boss-lady Pilar Zuazo became a problem for Nancy and her family. She blackmailed Esteban, hired a hitman to take Nancy out, and when that didn't work, she threatened her sons' lives.

Shane took care of it

After Pilar finished threatening Nancy and her sons, Shane appeared from behind her and whacked her in the head with a croquet mallet. She fell into the pool and died from the head trauma.

The Botwins fled North

The Botwins fled Esteban's compound in Mexico for Canada, running from the cartel and the law. They embarked on a road trip that would take them back to California and through Colorado, Montana, Seattle and Nancy's hometown in Michigan.

Andy left Audra behind

A cross-bow wielding anti-abortion zealot held Audra hostage, but Nancy figured out a way to free her. Still, Audra freaked out at Andy for not defending her, denied his marriage proposal and broke up with him. Rather than fight to save the relationship, he decided to leave her behind and head North with the Botwins.

Nancy had sex with Mark-Paul Gosselaar

While stopping over in a small town called Pioneer City, Nancy got drunk at a bar and had rough, doggy-style sex with the bartender Jack, played by Mark-Paul Gosselaar.

Silas discovered Judah wasn't his biological father

In Michigan, Silas discovered that Judah wasn't his biological father after meeting Nancy's high school boyfriend Lars, who looks just like him.

Nancy, Andy and Silas sold pot in a Seattle hotel

The family briefly re-settled in Seattle, calling themselves the Newmans. Silas, Nancy and Andy got odd-jobs at a hotel, which they quickly turned into a weed-selling operation. (Also, her hair looked like that.)

Nancy went public ... sort of

Nancy agreed to tell her life story to an investigative journalist in exchange for enough money to buy her family fake passports so they could move to Copenhagen. Unfortunately, Guillermo and Esteban killed the journalist before he could write the story.

Guillermo and Esteban tracked Nancy down

Guillermo and Esteban tracked Nancy and her family down, and held Silas hostage, trying to trade him for baby Stevie. Nancy put "Plan C" into effect and agreed to go with them as they threatened to kill her. Suddenly, FBI agents swarmed them at the airport and Nancy confessed to the murder of Pilar Zuazo. Guillermo, Esteban and Nancy were arrested while Silas, Shane and Andy got on a plane to Denmark.

Life in Copenhagen

"Weeds" jumped three years ahead at the start of Season 7. Doug, Andy, Silas and Shane made themselves nice lives in Copenhagen. Shane became a puppeteer, Silas worked as a male model while Andy and Doug led stoner bicycle tours through the city.

Nancy got out of jail

After serving three years in prison, Nancy got out on parole and was ordered to live in a half-way house in New York. Stevie had been living under the legal custody of her sister Jill, played by Jennifer Jason Leigh. The guys reluctantly left Copenhagen to fly to New York when they got word Nancy had been released.

Nancy got a girlfriend

When she was in jail, Nancy hooked up with her cellmate Zoya, who gave her a key to a cache of grenades that Nancy traded with Zoya's brother Demetri for some Afghan weed when she got out. She also had an affair with Demetri.

Shane joined the cadets

Channeling his interest in crime into something positive, Shane joined a New York City police cadet training program, where he used his police connections for inside information, and worked with Nancy to take down a rival weed delivery service.

Silas got mad

Unfortunately, Silas had been hooking up with and talking about merging with Emma (Michelle Trachtenberg), the boss of that rival delivery service, Pouncy House. When he realized Nancy orchestrated her bust, he got angry and tried to break off from Nancy and start his own business, but it didn't go too well.

Nancy sold pot in the Hamptons

Doug got promoted to CFO of a Ponzi-scheme hedge fund that his college buddies started, and took Nancy out to the Hamptons, where they sold insanely overpriced "luxury" weed to wealthy unsuspecting customers.

Nancy bought the family a compound in Connecticut

Using the profits from her luxury weed operation and some cash from Doug's hedge fund, Nancy bought a family compound in Connecticut ... complete with a grow-room for Silas. Her sister Jill moved in with Stevie and her two kids. Andy and Jill also started having sex again.

Nancy got shot?

As Nancy gave a toast to new beginnings at a family dinner, a gunman lurking in the bushes got Nancy in his sights. He fired a shot and the screen went dark, ending Season 7 on a major cliffhanger.

PASCO, Wash. (AP) ? Startled drivers weren't seeing things ? it really was a kangaroo hopping down the highway in Washington state.

The meandering marsupial nearly caused a couple of accidents Saturday and police responded, keeping the 'roo off the road while its owner tracked it down and caught it with help from friends.

KNDO reports (http://is.gd/hrDcO9 ) owner lives in an area of the state where it's legal to own exotic pets. The Franklin County resident also has a zebra.
